About

Thanks for viewing some of the images in PHOTOSTORYWORLD. My name is Richard Humphries and I’m originally from New Jersey.

I began doing freelance writing and photography in 1994 while based in Japan and teaching at Japanese universities. Long semester breaks meant more time for travel. Destinations included French Guiana, Rwanda, Moldova, Ladakh, East Timor and many more. Over 500 of my photos, and somewhere between 150 and 200 articles, have been published, mostly in English-language newspapers and magazines in Asia. Topics have ranged from the whimsical to the deadly serious. In 2007, Orchid Press published my book, Frontier Mosaic: Voices of Burma from the lands in between.

After moving on from Japan, I spent a chunk of time as an assistant project supervisor helping to set up and run Myanmar’s first weekly business magazine. I was also lead writer for their special publication, Myanmar Economic Report: Investment and Risks 2012.

More recently, I walked the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail in Spain, using the Camino Frances route. I made a photo book from that trip and it is available for sale by clicking on the title, Devotional Trails: Spaces and solitude along Spanish pilgrimage routes.
