Khe Sanh, Vietnam

I spent a few days in Khe Sanh, the scene in 1968 of one of the Vietnam War’s biggest set piece battles. Th battlefield museum is a few kilometers walk from downtown. Further down the track from where I met these workers is a large grove of coffee trees, some of which look like stunted ogres, maybe due to the great age of those trees.

Today Khe Sanh is a bustling center and a hub for ethnic minorities in the nearby hills to bring their goods to market. While having a pizza in a local restaurant, I met a Canadian couple from Nunavut who were riding a motorbike north to Hanoi where they hoped to sell it. They lived on Baffin Island and were part of a country rock band there called the Jerry Cans, a band which featured an indigenous throat singer at the time.
