Sumatra

Sumatra is the world’s sixth-largest island and a wide large variety of cultures inhabit its many regions.

The first photo is from a Christian wedding I was invited to at a small town beside Lake Toba. The second one, from Aceh, shows the interior of the Tsunami Museum whose construction is meant to show suggest the catastrophic tidal wave that destroyed the city in 2004. The third photo was taken on a short hike I made up Mount Sibayak, just outside Berastagi, and into the caldera of that sulfurous volcano.

The last photo was also taken in Aceh, and at an elementary school where I was invited to give a short English lesson by a local teacher who worked there.
